Adoption Class 10 & Adoption Update

August 29, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

Well had a major shift to our adoption plans over the last two days.  We weren't supposed to take this class.  My wife and I had full plans of adopting through a neighboring, and more diverse county.  However on Wednesday we are told that they don't really want people from other counties!  So we're young and flexible and moved to our home county.  Problem... our home county requires 2 other classes.  Tonight's class on education advocacy and a CPR/First aid class.

So my church came to the rescue again and provided some child care on short notice.

As mentioned tonight's class was on education advocacy.  A lively class.  We have several home schooler's in our class and there was a long drawn out conversation about the merits of that.  Then we went onto how you deal with the children you get and their learning difficulties.  We were a good resource for this as our middle son has had to use some of the resources in a school system due to some speech issues.

Overall, probably the second best class so far.

Now another update as well.  Got a letter in the mail today warning us that we may not be approved, so proceed with caution.  Reason for potentially not being approved?  "Previous contact with the child protection agency."  Now they make it clear that this is not a solid warning, but something that will have to be answered.  Wife and I aren't worried about this.  10 years ago, yes 10 years ago, somebody called CPS on my wife and I.  Said we performed surgery on him at home... yeah, performed surgery on him... I won't go into the details, but it was as absurd as it sounds.  We actually, somehow..., were wise enough to keep the letter from CPS clearing us of any wrong doing.  Plus its in their file (we dealt with this during our first adoption).

So its been a fun two days.

3 classes left.
