Adoption Class 7

Had class seven, Primary Families.

This class was a focus about how we see the primary families (the family losing the child we are adopting) and how we interact with them.

The first exercise was on what we thought about the parents losing their children.  And overall the picture wasn't pretty.

Then we talked about the dynamics of working with the primary family.  There are many times in this situation where the adoptive family will be in contact with the primary family.  We discussed the pro's and con's of this.  Probably the biggest concern was safety.  This is my biggest concern.  If the situation is safe, I have very little hesitation with having contact with the primary family (or aunts and uncles).  But if the situation is dangerous, then this can't happen.  But honestly the second generally doesn't happen as the agency does try to protect all involved.

I know that by interaction with our first adopted child's family has enriched ours greatly.  I just hope we get the same benefit this time around.

Class seven was pretty good. Four classes left.
