Adoption - Would you trust them?

NO!!!

In our first class the instructor asked a very interesting question.  If you died today would you want your kids taken care of by any of the people in the room.

NO. NO. NO.

While there are many (MANY) great families in the foster car system, the question was would I want them watched by anybody in the room.  The great diversity of people in this system is one of the great parts of it, along with one of the downfalls of it.

I even inquired about what kind of filtering REALLY goes on with people.  How do bad, not so bad they beat the kids but so bad that they really have no parenting skills, foster parents get removed?  One of the 'new movements' of foster care is that anybody can really do it if you have a clean criminal background.  Anybody, women after their third failed marriage.  Men after a divorce due to cheating. A couple with a truly dysfunctional marriage. If you can get the character references, you are good to go.  But are the children better off?

I just wonder what kind of real filtering goes on after the training.

More questions than answers.
