40 Days of Focus - Day 1

July 7, 2008 18:35 by ckincincy

Well the day started off well.  Alarm went off a 5:50 AM, got out of bed at 6:00 AM.  Goal 1 met!

Came into my office and read Matthew 1 - 7.  Goal 2 met!

Prayed and logged my prayers. Goal 3 met!

Got home and forgot to focus on my children... oops.  Goal 4, not met!

Got home and cleaned out most of our last 'weed bed', so far so good with being loving to wife (we've said like 20 words to each other...).

Now onto what all this meant.  Over the past few days I've been writing a prayer log of things to pray for and about. Some of these are easy, a member of my church with cancer.  Some are selfish.  Some are sad that they even need to be on this list.  But one surprises me.  Last night I was in a time of reflection and I asked God to give me things that I need to pray about.  The name that immediately came to mind shocked me. I felt like Jonah and Ninevah.  I do not want to pray for this individual, I tried to debate with my conscience... I lost.  So I prayed for him.  I will continue to pray for him. Still don't know why, but maybe my daily reading answered the why...

Matthew 5:23-24
If you are offering your gift at the alter, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the alter and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

I guess.... still struggling with this one.

Now an update on Matt K who also agreed to do the 40 Days of Focus, he got me his list earlier today:

  • Read two chapters of the Bible a day.
  • To daily submit himself wholly to God in deep, meaningful prayer.
  • To provide a much better example to his children of a loving, giving, self-sacrificing, Christian gentleman.  Special emphasis on "gentleman" as he believes a true gentleman encompasses all these things, and the typical gentlemanly habits (like opening doors for the lady, letting women and children go first, holding your temper, etc..) promote and support the other items he mentioned.
  • To allow myself to be held accountable for the items in this list.

So Matt is in! Keep a eye on the comments of this blog as you will likely find updates on the rest of the guys their if you don't see them in the actual blog.
