Not Promiscuous

September 5, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

OK, so a bit dated here (read my blog... I've been BUSY!).  But I just have to comment on this story.

Many weeks ago John Edwards admitted being involved in an affair.

Now I won't even touch on the affair itself, but a comment made by the mistress's family is just so laughable its sad.

They said that she is being falsely portrayed as a 'promiscuous person'.

Excuse me??

What else would you call it?  She slept with not one, but at least two married men in course of a year.

Call it what it is... much worse than promiscuous.

Sick Pay Equals 75,000 fewer jobs

August 28, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

Ok, so I've railed on the stupid sick pay legislation a few times.  Lets do another.

Recent study says that enforcing seven paid sick days would cost the state of Ohio 75,000 jobs

Interesting find is that 20% of those job losses would come from companies not directly affected by the legislation.  But due to the larger companies they feed off of, going out of business or moving out of state... they wouldn't have a reason to be in business either.

Just love the democrats, but hey lets be fair even democrat govenor Ted Strickland opposes the legislation.

Even the democrats agree

August 10, 2008 00:32 by ckincincy

I've railed on this blog before that the sick day proposal in Ohio is bad news...

Even the democrats agree!

Great quote from the article:

John Popa, president and chief executive of Mar- lite Inc., in Dover, told the governor's office in an e-mail that the Healthy Families Act is the worst business proposal he's seen in his career, and would likely force him to transfer production to plants outside Ohio.

So its a good thing all those workers have seven sick days for the job they no longer have.

School Levies

August 5, 2008 21:28 by ckincincy

So my local school district had a levy up for vote today.  It failed 38% to 62% (though that's not final as there are provisional ballots... including mine... that don't get counted for two weeks).

This kind of ticks me off.  There were several 'facts' thrown out by the vote no crowd that were just wrong.  Not even close to being accurate.

We have two more tries for a yes vote.  I think I'm going to volunteer my time for a 'vote yes' web site that gets the facts out.

Vote no because you don't have the money for the extra taxes.

Vote no because you think spending is wasteful.

Don't vote no based on lies and misinformation.

How a person can look at the elementary school and STILL vote no is beyond me.

Yeah a bit angry.

Sad, sad story

August 2, 2008 23:41 by ckincincy

Recently read a story about how a young lady is in danger of being deported.  I could go into the details, but you can read those here.

But PLEASE take the time to email your senator and the two senators of Pennsylvania to have this dealt with.

There is NO reason why this should be an issue.

I've just spent a few minutes of my time emailing folks, will you do the same?

Small Town Politics

June 29, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

I've delayed posting anything about this, as it contains some things that could be considered inflammatory if the person doesn't read the whole post.

So if you read past this, you owe it to me to read the whole thing.

Last weekend LifeStream Christian Church sponsored a concert in the Village of Batavia.  This involved the need to close Broadway Street, a lowly traveled street during non-school times.

The Village Administrator also happens to be an Elder at LifeStream Christian Church, so he was involved in this event in two roles.

1. Elder.  It was a way to get our church name out in the public, and the fee wasn't to bad ($1200 according to the paper... more on that in a second).
2. Village Administrator. This event was also 'sponsored' by the Village of Batavia for the purpose of letting the band use the village land and advertise with a large banner over Main Street in Batavia.

I arrived about 20 minutes before the concert started and I saw my friend Bob (the Administrator/Elder) getting a verbal lashing from a middle aged (but not small) man.  Also involved were two, IMO, not fit for battle police officers and the mayor John Thebout.  I initially assumed this was an angry citizen so I headed in his direction to give some, um, personal backup.  As I approached I heard this man say to arrest Bob for disorderly conduct!  So I figured it was the police chief, Michael Gardner, and kept my distance.

Turns out the dispute was over the closing of the street.  Gardner feels that Bob has to get a permit to close roads.  Bob feels that in his role as Village Administrator and more specifically street commissioner can shut down a road anytime he wants to.  And this concert, planned well in advance, was a reason to shut down this small and sparsely traveled road.

The truth in the matter is that nobody, in power, apparently knows who is right.   So now Judge Anthony W. Brock will have to decide who is right in a pending court case.

Now this could have been avoided had Gardner taken a few precautionary steps before hand (he apparently knew he was going to cause issues with this for a period of time before the actual concert).  Gardner had two options that would have satisfied his problem.

1. Talk to Village Solicitor George Leicht and ask for his legal opinion with the situation.  That is Leicht's job by the way.

2. Go to the village council and ask them to pass an ordinance making the 'right decision' here very clear.  Now this is pretty easy for Gardner considering his wife, Michelle is on council.

However, and this is where I fault him, he decided to put the village in the spot light in a negative manner over what, at its root, is a political power struggle.  There is a very small minority that wants Bob Stewart AND Mayor Thebout out of their positions.  This movement hit its peak in the past elections when two pretty vocal opponents ran against Thebout, though one was significantly more negative then the other.  After the elections Thebout won handily, and you'd hope that this minority could accept that elections have consequences and move forward for the betterment of the village.  However they couldn't so the next council meeting will likely be a waste of time focused on this incident.

I just wish that Gardner would spend his Sunday evenings fighting crime rather than a public service to the village of Batavia.  I lived in the village until I recently moved, and right across the street from me was a group of people that were constantly involved in shady things, and there were sometimes when I couldn't get much resolve from Mr. Gardner to fix the issue.

So why do I post this now?  Two reasons, the second because of the first.

1. The Cincinnati Enquirer has picked up on this event and written an article (Front page, section C).

2. The article mentions my church.   So I figured I'd give at least a non-partial third party opinion to the situation.

Aren't politics grand?

Though I will confess, I had my share of fun ridiculing Bob for getting arrested. :-)

Failed Abortion leads to healthy baby

June 24, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

Sometimes we think we are just so smart.

A family had a son who died of some kidney issues.  Then had a second child born with significant kidney issues (and currently has just one).  Then there was a third pregnancy.  They did some initial test and determined that this child was going to have kidney issues, so they decided to have an abortion.

The abortion failed!  So at 19 weeks they decided to keep the child.  Even then the test showed significant kidney issues.

Then the child was born.  With minor kidney issues and is expected to lead a normal life.

So much for our 'early test'.

Sick Days are good for Indiana

June 22, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

This election cycle the State of Ohio will have the option to vote for a mandatory seven sick days for employee's of companies with more than 25 employees.

On February 20, 2008 I posted that this was a bad idea.  The Tribute of Seymour, Indiana agree's.  In fact they say that it is good for Indiana

The paper states in reply to the following comment, "Workers should not have to choose between a paycheck and recovery time when they get sick.", the following quip:

"Measures like this one will ensure the paycheck won't even be an option for even more Ohioans and perhaps ensure that more companies like Honda and Nestle choose Indiana over Ohio as homes for their plants, much as they did with announcements last year."

Couldn't agree more.  This is bad policy... we need to vote NO!

Election Rant

May 21, 2008 06:00 by ckincincy

Well I've been a bit to busy to really dig into this, but a brief rant.

How can the democrats put a guy up that is getting his behind handed to him?  Obama has not had a good run since he took a commanding lead.  That doesn't bode will for him come November. Especially with the polls that show that 20% of Hillary supporters will vote for McCain over Obama.  With the big exception...

McCain is not getting 25% of the Republican vote.  He has the nomination locked up, but he is consistently not getting 25% of the vote from the Republican side.  Now while all of that won't carry over to November, it doesn't take much to change an election.

Will really be the race to the bottom.

<Praying for my great country>

Matt Maupin

March 30, 2008 19:16 by ckincincy

Matt Maupin an Army soldier missing in Iraq for several years has finally had his remains found.

I am good friends with a guy that grew up with Matt and was supposed to serve with him in the convoy that was attacked so I have kept pretty good ties into the news of this young hero (as has much of our part of the world).

Born July 13, 1983.  Murdered sometime between April 9, 2004 and June 28, 2004.

I am glad that his mom and dad get to put their son to rest on American soil.
