Well had a moment this morning to do a recap of the men's retreat.

Two of the three leaders (the third is visiting his dad in Florida) were up front talking about the retreat and the men's ministry as a whole.

We also took the time to have some fun at the expense of a few other guys.... however one of them got me pretty good in this clip.

Now this is how you do baptism.

Please understand that this is all from my point of view and does not in any way represent the church.  This is all me, and my thoughts.

1. Well its official, a new name is on the way! This I am excited about, when I first attended BCC I asked if the name would be changed.  I was told yes, just not yet.  Well now is the time.  I've added to their web site an explanation of what we are looking for in a name and a way for anybody to submit idea's.

2. Rich Higgins preached last week. Rich and I have a bit of shared history, and though I'd love to get to know him much better then I do... that just hasn't happened yet.  However Rich preached a great sermon last week, the first time I've gotten to hear him preach.  When I heard the title of his sermon it gave me some heart burn, "UnChristian - Becoming a Church for People Who Don't Like Church".  There is a book out there called UnChristian which slams the church after some polling results from a bunch of non-Christians.  And while I do agree we need to know what they are thinking, I'm a bit hesitant to use their ideas to fix the church.  Seem's to me like going to the sick for medical advice.  But Rich preached a great sermon, and one thing he said has stuck with me and will lead to a post sometime this month.

The church is God's plan for the salvation of the World, it is plan A there is no plan B, this is it.

THAT is the perspective we should have about church.  You can listen to the sermon here.  That is just how important church is.

3. The men's retreat is right around the corner and we have started showing our commercials to advertise it.  You can watch video one below.  Video's 4 and 5 are giving the minister some heart burn... lets just say it involves a few men in dresses.  Stay tuned to the church web site and this blog for the rest of the video's.

4. Things are going very well at church.  I love the fact that my wife is getting very tied in.  Its really only the second time in 10.5 years of being a Christian where I've seen her enjoy church.  She has had a rough journey, and I am so glad that she has some peace.

Yes, that is a power cord running over the pool.

Maybe one of the scariest things I've ever had pop into my email inbox.

So how about a little break from the last few post... heard this on Focus on the Family the other day...

Mable was a bit concerned, her son David got a roommate... Stephanie.  David assured Mable that it was purely platonic and that nothing was going on.  But Mable wanted to find out and she was sure that she could figure it out if she came over for dinner.  So she went over and Stephanie created a great meal for them all, and Mable went home.

A few day's later Stephanie came to David and said, "I'm not saying she took it, but ever since your mom came over my sterling silver gravy ladle has been missing."  David was stunned at the accusation, but after some more conversation he decided that he would email his mom and ask her about it. 

"Mom, I'm not saying you took it... but ever since you came over for dinner Stephanie's sterling silver gravy ladle has been missing."

A few days later Mom replied.  "Honey, I'm not saying you and Stephanie are sleeping together but if she were sleeping in her own bed she would have found it!"

Classic!

Thought she was going to be fired... turned out it was for a similar job at her bosses... wifes... company. 

Well today has been a very busy day, and I didn't even accomplish everything I wanted to accomplish. 

Took a vacation day (read: I need another just to relax)... woke up and went out to meet with a local company that needs some short term help on some .NET development, looks interesting.  I need to research it a bit more, but ran out of time.  After meeting with the company I went to play basketball with my friend and first IT boss (same guy) at the local YMCA.  Finally got home around 2:15, took a shower to get the sweat off of me.  Then the mailman ran and we got our last W2 form so I took the time to file my taxes.  Having a bunch of babies is nice come this time of the year ;-)

Next we set down as a family and had dinner... food is good :-D.  Then it was off to our weekly small group.  Now last week one of the members decided to wear his robe to the meeting... don't ask me why... luckily (I guess) I had my camera with me due to the fund raiser earlier in the day, and snapped a photo.

Really, don't ask me what made him think this was a good idea... I really don't have an answer :-D

However, this week we decided to turn the table on him and everybody else was in their night time attire.  I'm glad I don't have a detailed picture of Steve's setup... need to scrape my eyes out :-)

Then to cap the night off I got home and put the finishing touches on some hand outs for the men's ministry at the Batavia Church of Christ.   Over the past few months we have been working to strengthen and revamp the men's ministry to serve our church and community more effectively.  I am really stoked about where we are headed.  I just hope the fire catches on and we see men get closer.  Men become men in the presence of other men!, and I want to be around a bunch of God fearing men.  I've already been able to see some real needs get met by this group of men, and what excites me the most is that this IS ONLY THE BEGININNG!

Well its time for bed.
